THE GRASS GODS ARE CHANTING:
NO MOW LAWN! TURN IT INTO GARDEN! HAVE SOME ADVENTURE!
Saturday
Berming it
Working on the berm with the sod was enlightening - - all manner of small, fresh young leaves are pushing up through the brown remains of summer past. I wish they knew it's too early---winter has only just begun.
For about ten years my garden in Oregon was open to visitors, photographed by magazine photographers and written about in books and the press. I loved that garden experience and although I have now been digging up a much smaller plot, I decided to share what I have learned in a blog. I also give lectures and have had a few television and radio interviews.
Enough horn tooting.
This blog may turn out to be a major undertaking and I will not be able to offer you good navigational ability at first. If things work out, there will be stories about handling typical problems in the garden - plus illustrated examples of making good plant combinations while taking into consideration color, cultural needs like sun soil and water etc.
I also wrote a column on Gardening for three years (The Register Guard) and another column for a now defunct monthly paper.
I compiled a when-to-do-what gardening calendar a few years ago and it was published.
Now, I am putting together a lavishly illustrated book on gardening. Don't be looking for it yet, however.
